In 2025, according to the latest estimates from the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 73 million induced abortions occur worldwide each year, representing 61% of all unintended pregnancies and 29% of all pregnancies overall.
These figures are based on consolidated global data, showing significant regional variations, such as higher rates in developing countries. The global rate of unsafe abortions is around 45%, highlighting the persistence of risky procedures in contexts with legal restrictions or limited access to healthcare services.
In regions such as Africa and Latin America, up to 75% of abortions are classified as unsafe, contributing to severe complications and maternal mortality. In contrast, unsafe abortions are associated with high risks, including hemorrhage, infection, and genital tract injury, resulting in about 7 million women being treated annually in hospitals across developing countries for complications.
This book aims to encourage readers to reconsider their position on the morality of abortion.
